Listening to Art, by William Denton.
Volume nine, number three: The Fortune Teller by Caravaggio.
Hello, and welcome to Listening to Art. I’m William Denton.
Caravaggio made two versions of this painting. The first, dated around 1595, is in Rome, and we heard it in volume three number four. This, the second, was painted soon after and is dated to 1595–1598.
This is a painting, oil on canvas, 131 cm wide by 99 cm high.
Now let’s listen to The Fortune Teller by Caravaggio, recorded at the Louvre, in Paris, on 18 July 2019.
That was The Fortune Teller by Caravaggio. I hope you enjoyed listening to it as much as I did.
