Hello, and welcome to Listening to Art. I’m William Denton.
In the previous issue we listened to Augustus John’s 1919 portrait of the Marchesa Casati. Now we will listen to an earlier portrait, dated 1911–1913, by Casati’s fellow Italian Giovanni Boldini. This is the second of two that he did of her. The title translates as Portrait of the Marchesa Casati with Peacock Feathers.
This is a painting, oil on canvas; the dimensions were not given but I estimate it is about 175 cm wide by about 125 cm high.
